Lundhs Ocean Granite Image Lundhs Ocean Granite Polished Slab Image

Description: Lundhs Ocean granite is a coarse-grained monzonite (larvikite) with a grey-green background and small blueish feldspar crystals. Also known as Emerald Blue Pearl. This stone internationally may be nominated as a granite but in the area of application of the European Standard this stone must be nominated as a monzonite. A small sample is usually representative of the whole slab not having a wide variation in colour and veining however there is a difference between Lundhs Ocean HQ and Lundhs Ocean 2nd & 3rd Choices. During the polishing process a clear epoxy resin filler may be used to fill any micro fissures or tiny pitting however this does not affect the integrity of the stone, it merely provides an even smoother surface finish. Lundhs Ocean granite is suitable for both interior and exterior use futhermore is frost resistant and with a constant polish.

Products: Suitable for construction projects both commercial and domestic, prefabricated countertops/worktops, vanities, tiles, backsplashes, paving, fireplaces and memorials.

Surface Finish: Lundhs Ocean granite looks best with a gloss polished surface but is also available as honed, leather/satin, river-washed/antique, thermal/flamed, brushed and sandblast finish.

Sealing: Test with a small sample. It is possible that a sealant can be used on Lundhs Ocean granite however excessive attempts at sealing it could actually create a residue film build-up.

Block Sizes: This is the original Lundhs Ocean granite quarry with the choice of two quality types of blocks, Lundhs Ocean 1st Choice, Lundhs Ocean 2nd Choice. For commercial projects it is important to ensure that blocks are selected from the same quarry face.

Rough blocks are usually exported by Break Bulk however intermodal containerisation is available at extra cost. Finished products are packed into sea-worthy wooden crates and loaded into containers.

Quarry Location: Lundhs Ocean granite is quarried near Krukaasen, Larvik, Vestfold, Norway.

Monzonite:: Monzonite is a plutonic igneous rock intermediate in composition between syenite and diorite. An intrusive igneous rock that contains abundant and approximately equal amounts of plagioclase and potash feldspar, it also contains subordinate amounts of biotite and hornblende and sometimes minor quantities of orthopyroxene. Quartz, nepheline, and olivine, which are occasionally present, produce quartz, nepheline, and olivene monzonites. Monzonite is not a rare rock type, but it generally occurs in rather small, heterogeneous masses associated with (and perhaps gradational to) diorites, pyroxenites, or gabbros.

Petrographic Composition: Average Feldspar 72%, Pyroxene 8%, Amphibole 6%, Biotite 3%, Apatite 3%, Nepheline 2%, Opaques 3%, Olivine 2%
