Description: Black Beauty granite is a natural, nearly black, sedimentary volcanic breccia with triangular clasts in a fine-grained, grey groundmass. A sedimentary rock found at the boundary between greenstone and conglomerate. This stone internationally may be nominated as a granite but in the area of application of the European Standard it is most likely to be nominated as an igneous breccia. The veining and colour varies hugely therefore a small sample of Black Beauty granite may not be representative of the whole slab therefore swatch samples must be approved for large projects to ensure that the blocks are all extracted from the same quarry face for matching purposes. During the polishing process a clear epoxy resin filler may be used to fill any micro fissures or tiny pitting however this does not affect the integrity of the stone, it merely provides an even smoother surface finish. Black Beauty granite is suitable for both interior and exterior use futhermore is probably frost resistant with a constant polish. Products: Suitable for construction projects both commercial and domestic, prefabricated countertops/worktops, vanities, tiles, backsplashes, paving, fireplaces and memorials.

Surface Finish: Black Beauty granite looks best with a gloss polished surface but is also available as honed, leather/satin, river-washed/antique, thermal/flamed, brushed and sandblast finish. Sealing: Test with a small sample. It is possible that a sealant can be used on Black Beauty granite however excessive attempts at sealing it could actually create a residue film build-up. Block Sizes: This is an exclusive quarry with a limited production of approximately 400-500 m3 per annum. Rough blocks are usually exported by Break Bulk however intermodal containerisation is available at extra cost. Finished products are packed into sea-worthy wooden crates and loaded into containers. Quarry Location: The island of Værlandet, west coast of Norway. Synonyms: Landøy Stone Granite: Granite is a common and widely occurring type of intrusive, felsic, igneous rock. Granites are usually medium to coarse grained, occasionally with some individual crystals larger than the groundmass forming a rock known as porphyry. Granites can be pink to dark grey or even black, depending on their chemistry and mineralogy. Volcanic Breccia:: A rock composed of angular fragments embedded in a fine-grained matrix. Breccias form from explosive volcanic ejections, the compaction of talus, or plate tectonic processes. Breccias are different from conglomerates in that the fragments they contain are angular instead of rounded.
